IP.Board 2 included a login manager utility in the admin control panel. Using this tool, you could tell IP.Board to authenticate login requests against third party databases, LDAP installations, or against IP.Converge, for example. You could even write up your own login methods and authenticate against any external data source of your choosing (i.e. the IP.Board 2.3 OpenID module). We used the login manager for conversions too - if you converted from another forum software, our login mana

Just a quick note to let you know that Alex Duggan's excellent CSS guide has been updated for IP.Board 2.2, and is now available on the site :) You can download it as a PDF, or use a web-based version. Both are available at: http://community.ipslink.com/board/documentation.html Thanks to Alex for his hard work on putting this together again, we know the community appreciates it! Rikki

In a digital world with no shortage of places to connect, a beautiful theme will help you stand out from the crowd.  We previously touched on the importance of branded communities, and now we’re unveiling new functionality that will help make your theme more functional: easy access to header and footer tabs within our new simple theme editor.  Invision Community already has a powerful and advanced theme editor allowing total control over every aspect of your community’s UI, however thi

It’s been a minute since our last blog post, but we have cooked up several epic projects in the interim. To refresh your memory, we recently launched a new platform update, 4.6. It includes *takes a deep breath* Achievements, Zapier integration, web app and push notifications, anonymous posting, solved content, the ability to show when a team member has replied, a new health dashboard, spam improvements and more. In the time since, we prepared a few special treats for you. Before we di

For a very long time Invision Community has allowed community owners to choose how open or private their communities should be. Communities could optionally allow guests to post without registering, they could allow the use of pseudonyms or they could require the use of real names. This covers a diverse range of communities but feedback from our clients made us realize that some use cases have not been accounted for. For some types of community, where discussion topics are particularly

Last year, we added an auto-install/upgrade tool into our client area. The tool would upload the latest version of the IPS Community Suite to your server automatically. The way it worked was after submitting the request, you were entered into a queue, and a program on our server uploaded the files, and emailed you when it was done so that you could run the upgrader script. It normally took about 30 minutes. 30 minutes is pretty good. For someone without the technical knowledge to upgrade, it

The first public beta release of IP.Board 3.1, applications, and related services is fast approaching. This blog entry will let you know what to expect and what you can do to help us in the process. We believe, as most other responsible software development companies do, that releasing beta versions is the best way to ensure that the software is as stable as it can be before a final, supported version is released. These beta releases are for testing purposes and allow our customers who are int

We have built public beta releases of our entire product line up for testing. Please be aware that beta releases are not supported by IPS technical support. We do not recommend running them on a live site, you may be unable to upgrade from a beta release to the final version, and our only course of support is to recommend you restore a backup of your site if you face any issues. We appreciate clients who wish to participate in beta testing programs. We would recommend cloning your live site

An important aspect to many webpages is the media embedded into the webpage. It's rare to come across a web page that has no images on it, after all. For this reason, we have included a media management tool in CCS to facilitate adding, organizing, and otherwise managing media for your pages. A word about security Security is a very important concern when working with files and folders on the filesystem. For this reason, CCS only allows image uploads to occur through the admin control pane

The core of the CCS application centers around allowing you to create pages for your website. The way you create pages and the types of pages you create will be specific to your site, however the process is the same. One administrator may want to build the full front of their website using CCS, while another administrator may want to add some pages within the forums that are not there by default. Both scenarios can be covered by CCS. The page manager interface looks similar to a computer folde

Our CCS application allows administrators to create page templates to facilitate easy addition of similar pages throughout the site. Most pages throughout a site follow the same general structure with only the main page content changing from page to page. You can utilize the page templates functionality of CCS to make adding pages in this scenario much easier. Page templates utilize the full power of IP.Board's skin system which means you can use any template conditionals and template plugins
