riko Posted September 29, 2021 Posted September 29, 2021 (edited) I moved to a new host and emails send to people who wanted to sign up got a link they needed to click for verification that had an "url1128" appended on it. I fixed that. But then I moved to yet another host because the previous one couldn't handle this software and I'm now am facing the exact same problem and I just cannot for the life of me remember what the solution was. On top of that I deleted all email correspondence that could tell me how to fix this, so this is a lot like 'Obi-Wan you're my only hope' question. Marc Posted September 29, 2021 Posted September 29, 2021 You would need to contact your email hosting company, as its them who are amending the URL there. If I remember correctly from hearing another customer talk about this, its related to tracking on emails, so it would be worth taking a look at that.

Marc Posted September 29, 2021 Posted September 29, 2021 It looks like your hosting company stated to add that subdomain to your DNS, but you didnt state there if that was your solution. I believe this is a tracking option they have set

Marc Posted September 29, 2021 Posted September 29, 2021 I can only really suggest contacting your hosting company at this point, as something there is amending the URL as you know, and they will very likely be able to tell you what causes that/how to switch it off

Yeah, unfortunately it was never posted in your ticket so there isnt anything I can really give you there, other than you stated they asked you to add something to DNS

If I had access to a test forum I could try things out without having to fear forking stuff up, but somewhere there is still a snippet of an older test forum active and I have no idea where. So that's a big no there.

riko Posted October 4, 2021 Author Posted October 4, 2021 I set the email Mail delivery method to PHP, tested it out with a new user using a new Gmail account that received a working verification link. Thinking that solved at least that part, I tried contacting sendgrid but their support was down. Then today someone signed up but my forum did not register that, though Paypal confirmed the user paid. So the user couldn't get in as there wasn't even a validation email. It's not even funny anymore and I'm getting a bit desperate.
Marc Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Completely understand you being desperate for assistance there, but unfortunately the issues you are having there are with your mail services rather than with the software. As a self hosted customer, once the mail leaves our system, it would be for the mail system to deliver those messages. You have seen yourself, the email is getting sent. The most likely scenario there is that its getting caught in their spam, so it would be well worth getting that checked first of all. There are no access details on file for me to check, but also check to ensure the domain you are sending from has SPF and DKIM records in place. This can cause them to be returned by receiving email services. That again would be a hosting thing though, so if you need more assistance with that you would really need to contact them on this. This is intentional behavior when you have sendgrid tracking turned on and you have added a branded URL. That's what is changing the address.
