Search issues - all new content only displays one page

My new content search for the site displays unread items. If I change the Read Status to everything, it lists the first page ok

However if I select load more content, I get told "There's no more activity to display"

If I change the time period to "all time" I get the rest of the content that's missing.

What can I do to clear this? 

Server time, date etc is fine.

Have you tried rebuilding the search index? It's an option on the Search settings page in the ACP.
