Plugin upload fails

Trying to install plugins. Tried two different ones. Both fail. The site gets redirected to a front-end error page "The page you requested does not exist" Error code: 1S160/2

Both plugins are 4.4 compatible.

Thoughts?

Thought it might have been the plugin directory permission. Went from 755 to 777, no difference. (now back to 755, obviously).
