SJ77 Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 In anticipation of this new directive I am requesting a mod be built and sold in the market place that blocks anyone (based on IP) in the EU from uploading. They can have read access but not write access. This to protect our sites from being liable! Any who can help, please and thank you Thank you 😊Â
Aiwa Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 So the directive passed the first round. Ok, it's still not law. If it does pass the second time around, member states have TWO years to implement the actual laws that are meant to comply with the EU directive. No one really knows what it'll take to be compliant because no law actually exists, yet. While I applaud your being proactive, you're throwing spitballs at the window hoping it sticks. Do not construe my advice for legal counsel in any way. You should contact an attorney, in your target market, to understand your exposure, and how to be  compliant, IF / WHEN the laws are actually passed.Â
SJ77 Posted November 20, 2018 Author Posted November 20, 2018 Seems the easiest way to be compliant, regardless of how the final law pans out, is to simply block all EU traffic from uploading. Thus this mod request

Pete T Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 One item forgot work out where does say not limited to all countries ? You blocking EU traffic may reduce one part and the new law (not finial)might also included the US or the US might bring its own version plus blocking any EU ip may out new can warm for you via people then using VPN and getting none EU IP.

It’s an interesting discussion. It could end up being very unfavorable to be a site owner. High risk vs minimal reward

It covers everything.Â
