Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted July 16, 20186 yr Hi, We're beginning to face people using our graphic ressources to their own purpose without authorization. In order to make our images less attractive to those people, I'm looking for a way to put our logo into all the pictures hosted by the community (watermark). I've not found a standard option to do that, so there is maybe some trick to perform it (a daily cron for example ?) or a plug-in ? Thankyou for your help, Regards, Z
July 20, 20186 yr A watermark can be added to a Gallery image or a Downloads screenshot, but there is no provision to watermark Topic/Post attachment images in the current version. (That's something which should be able to be done by a 3rd-party plugin, however.)
July 20, 20186 yr (That's something which should be able to be done by a 3rd-party plugin, however.) That would be good out of the box of the Investment Community. ?
July 30, 20186 yr To be honest if I were you I would rather not say anything aboud 3rd party plugins. Having just one 3rd party plugin means that you're stuck on an older version of IPB and you're completely in the hands of the plugin developer when he prepares a version compatible with the latest IPB. Usually it takes some time and when the plugin is ready, the IPB version is again higher and not compatible with the needed plugin. So you can't upgrade to the latest version and that means you have no support - because the first question the support asks "what version are you running" and if your answer is not the latest version, then your case is closed with "install the latest version first". This plugin hell is the most annoying feature of IPB in general. I'm not a newbie, I'm running IPB for more than a decade and it's the same (or worse) with each new version. Due to lack of elementary features that are not in the IPB itself you simply have to use some plugin. Through the years I had to discard some nice features just because I can't accept this feature transfer to plugins anymore. Our board is down to one plugin (Attachment Watermarks by Makoto) and one theme. Previously running 4.2.8 for few monts I decided to update the testsite to 4.3.3. While we fine tuned the theme to look like it was in 4.2.8 version, we ended up with IPB on 4.3.5. Theme is finally working again but the plugin is not so another waiting and tuning with the author plugin is necessary. I really don't get the point why attachment watermarking is not included in the IPB itself, when customers are asking for it!
August 10, 20186 yr .. because customers (in general) are asking for 1001 things all the time, so I imagine they are being prioritized. You can do watermarking though without any IPB functionality, by utilizing htaccess modrewrites on a server level for jpeg / jpg / png images. Plenty of resources available on google how to do that. For nginx too.

February 9, 20196 yr Thankyou @Fred Krugger but in the comments it seems not compatible with IPS4.3.X and it does not allow to add watermark on already uploaded pictures... Hi @Dexter_X, The plugin actually is 4.3.x compatible (though it looks like there's a glitch with the "Compatibility" field on the IPS marketplace right now). 4.4.x compatibility will still need to be tested, however, which I hope to do for all my applications soon. Adding watermarks to existing uploads is not currently possible but may be implemented in a future update.
February 9, 20196 yr Adicionar marcas d'água a uploads existentes não é possível no momento, mas pode ser implementado em uma atualização futura. 👍 Adding watermarks to existing uploads is not currently possible but may be implemented in a future update. 👍👍👍
February 14, 20196 yr Author Adding watermarks to existing uploads is not currently possible but may be implemented in a future update. that's the feature I'm most interested in...
April 1, 20196 yr 4.4.x compatibility will still need to be tested, however, which I hope to do for all my applications soon. Has it been tested with IPS 4.4?
December 7, 20195 yr Yes, worked fine, but I don't use it anymore because it watermarks images permanently and as far as I remember only while uploading. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
January 22, 20205 yr Author done - Sorry but it does not apply on already uploaded images, it does not match my need...
January 22, 20205 yr Community Expert Sorry then. 🙂 It would require making a copy of original images so the server quota should be twice bigger.

January 22, 20205 yr what about using php-scripted images where only the watermark is added to the original one(s) ? It does not require to copy and may take less place in the server... Doing this on-demand would be very resource expensive without some form of caching. If you want to use my plugin and have it apply watermarks to all existing attachments as a one-time thing, I can build a custom script for you to do this, but it will need to be done as a paid service.
February 15, 20205 yr Hey @Dexter_X! If you're still interested in this, I've released an updated version of my application which should have everything you need! @DSystem as well, since you were interested!
