Limit no. of Our Picks showing on page

Hi, is there any way to limit the number of picked items from showing on the "Our Picks" page? It seems to be set to 24 items which can make the page a bit slow to load when using it as a home page (with photos on each item). I'd prefer to have it display 12 items and then break to the next page.

Really need to find a way to implement this limit. The home page is taking way too long to open now.
