How to Remove Activity Info from Guest Visitors?

I'd like to be able to remove all activity from guest visitors. I am told this is only possible by modifying the theme directly, which I'm finding hard to be believe.

I would prefer to remove specific activity from a few of the things that are really for member eyes only, but I would take turning off activity for guests for all things if it meant more privacy.

Anyone have a solution out there?
