Errors after upgrade

Hi guys,

I'm getting this error after an upgrade, happens all the time when I make a new thread etc.  Also the index is showing new posts but when I go into the forums the threads aren't updating in the index so it doesn't look like there's a new post on the thread.  I'm using a vanilla 4.2 installation (no themes) and only the clear cache plugin which hasn't helped.  Any ideas?

MySQL server has gone away

This is pointing towards a server side concern rather than a problem with the suite itself. If your host offers support (as I see its a Windows box) I'd suggest asking them about this as a first step, it may be a temporary glitch or the resource limits for mySQL are possibly set too low.

If you have to try to diag this without their help, examine any sql related log files (error logs) to see if there are any clues as to what/why as a next step but if your host does support then I'd let them look first at it. :)

Try admin cp -> search -> rebuild search index.

Might take a little while to complete, but we have a similar issue we've been having for quite a while now (6+ months) and that's been our steady fix.
For us however, the search index re-crashes every saturday in the very early morning.

Do you happen to use bluehost?
