Themes not compatible with 4.2?

I upgraded from 4.1 to 4.2 and now it seems my themes are no longer compatible.  On the forum, the author of a thread is overlapped by the number of pages and the page back/forward button doesn't seem to be working properly.  Any thoughts

I would encourage you to check out the "Resources", "Theme Differences" page on this website.

Since IPB released IPB 4.1 there have been 105 different builds that the developers modified HTML or CSS or both (adds, deletes, changes) leading up to the release of 4.21  In many cases there were multiple changes made between builds.  That equates to a LOT of changes made to themes from 4.1 to 4.2.  Using any theme that hasn't been upgraded to 4.2 and you will begin to notice more and more problems especially if you have installed any third-party apps that may have made changes as well.

If you will continue to upgrade your board in the future please plan for even more theme changes as that seems to be the "norm" for the developers here.  This is something that all of "us" IPB customers have to live with if we continue to utilize their software platform.  It is important to find a theme designer that has experience dealing with the constant changes and can make appropriate changes to their themes in a timely fashion and at a reasonable upgrade pricing model.

The problem you noted "above" is but one of MANY that you are likely to encounter in the days or weeks to come if you continue using a 4.1 theme.  As such you may not receive any help addressing it as it would be like throwing one bucket of water at a blazing factory fire and hoping it will do the job of putting it out.

Another thing you need to think about is the fact that there are also a variety of different desktop and mobile browsers on the market.  Each of these browsers can render a website differently on a desktop or handheld device.  The more effort theme designers and IPB takes to ensure their theme "works" across all of these different browsers and screen dimensions and pixel densities the more they have to charge. The phrase, "You get what you pay for" is appropriate here.  If IPB customers want a website that provides an optimal experience for every device and web browser they will need to budget a sizable amount of money for the initial purchase and ongoing updates.
