In order for the activity stream to be useful for RSS posting, we really need the ability to sort by when the content was created, not updated. This would eliminate the issue of replies/comments bumping up items in the list and being posted to Twitter, Facebook, etc again.

Can you still add the ability to sort activity feeds by created date, and show only the first post/item rather than any replies/comments in the activity feed, to make it significantly more useful?
