How doess the community reputation system works?

I'd like to know how IP.S calculates the community reputation of a user. Can someone explain that to me?

Reputation points = total number of likes.

Or, if you set your board to allow negative reputation votes (i.e. thumbs up OR thumbs down) then it's the difference between total positive points minus total negative points.
