Status Updates

Is there a way to disable others from leaving a message on another members feed?  I want members to be able to change their status AND allow others to comment on that status, but I don't want members to be able to post directly onto another members feed.  I think that there is confusion and they think that they are sending a PM when in reality are posting to their feed and that post is being displayed on the main page because I have the widget enabled.
