Show number of unread items in Activity Stream page title

Please make the title of the Activity Stream page show the number of new items so that you don't have to check the page every time to see if there's anything you to.

Similarly to how Twitter does it:

I also think it's ironic that the only time the tab will show anything is if you get disconnected from the internet and it is no longer updating. Then you'll see a giant black pause button. But nothing when there's actually something new

We show the number of new notifications in the tab right now; I think it would have to be one or the other, having multiple numbers would be confusing.

Can it be the number of new items for the Activity Stream page and the number of new notifications for the rest of the site?

There's no technical reason why it couldn't, but I think that would be pretty confusing.

Well I hope you guys think about it and find a way.

I'm using the Stream a lot and always find myself going to the tab I have opened to check if there's anything new

Or ... Why wouldn't the number just update with the number of new items? 

For example, the tab initially shows 12 for a dozen new notifications.  Then three new content items are added, so the number gets updated to 15.

That would be even more confusing, would it not?

Wait, I agree.  It would be very confusing ... because you're mixing notifications (of content that you follow) with new items (which you may or may not follow).
