Trying to convert to Invision Powerboard from vbulletin 3.8.8

As the title states I'm trying to convert my vbulletin forum 3.8.8 to Invision powerboard.  Part of the problem is the size of the sql database is 4.4gb so I get timeouts and eventually errors converting no matter how many cycles I lower it to.  I'm guessing that I should run the installation locally then upload the files to the server?

I have never done anything like this before but I'm so fed up with vbulletin that I'm willing to try.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?  I'm taking baby steps currently and have MySQL Workbench installed but that is as far as I have got.

You shouldn't have these issues, what type of hosting are you on? it sounds like perhaps your host is limiting resources maybe and causing this.

I would recommend finding a host/server to run it on rather then going through the whole setup process locally, but that is up to you though.

how many post and members do you have?

42k members, 191828 posts, but the attatchment's on the forum are taking up 3.8gb of data in the mysql database....Maybe there is something I can do about that?

What part of the conversion is hanging and causing errors?  if it's  on the attachments portion, you can move those to a file system in vb first, then re-run it, perhaps your server is mysql weak, and can't handle that portion.

42k members and 191k post should convert in about 2 hours tops though.

I will try again tomorrow I suppose.  How would I move them to a file system? It converted the members no problem and it eventually converted the posts.  But after giving me errors like this:

An error occured with the SQL server:
mySQL query error: SELECT * FROM vb_postedithistory WHERE postid=583 ORDER BY postedithistoryid ASC

This is not a problem with the IPS Community Suite but rather with your SQL server. Please contact your host and copy the message shown above.

When that error occurred I had to refresh or return to index.  Is the only solution to make it use more cycles or is it my webhost?

Edit: Ok I found out how to convert them to a file system.

I would recommend that you file a support ticket and we can take a look, and help you through this process.

To move the files to a file system in vb, log into the admincp of the vb site, then on the left select "file storage type", then select move to a file system, enter the path, and proceed.

If it's not having errors on the attachments though, that is not needed.
