DudeThatsErin Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Any idea when the estimated time for 4.0 to release is?I know there is nothing set in stone but I want an estimate... was supposed to be earlier this year but so far nothing yet. Don't blame y'all it is a whole rewrite but I'm curious.I want to know whether it would be OK to make a theme for my site now or if I should wait until 4.0 comes out ultimately.
Bluto Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 When it's ready... it's ready. That is the best answer you're going to get from anyone.I've started working on a theme and so have others. So, I believe, it's safe to start a 4.0 theme. You'll have to make some changes but I think they'll be minor.

Sorry, should have stated that.I wasn't going to install a beta version of 4.0 as I don't want to deal with the bugs. They would annoy me too much.
Ahmad E. Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 I would expect the final release somewhen in march/april.But that's just a guess, it can be anywhen.
DudeThatsErin Posted December 21, 2014 Author Posted December 21, 2014 That's what I was thinking. After my license expires. X.X
Bluto Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 I was talking a 3.4.7 theme. Sorry, should have stated that.I wasn't going to install a beta version of 4.0 as I don't want to deal with the bugs. They would annoy me too much.Personally, this is just me, I wouldn't develop a theme for 3.4.7 - that is if it's a fully customized theme. If you're just doing a simple color change, then that theme would be pretty easy to do. I've stopped all development on 3.4.7. I've even started removing mods that I've added just to make the transition to 4.0 easier.IMHO, I don't see it taking too long for an RC version of 4.0. They're fixing most of the bugs as they come in and releasing betas just about every weekish. I've been on this forum at all hours of the day and there seems to be "shifts" of IPS people working on bug reports in the bug tracker. So, it appears to me that they want a final release as much as everyone else. Can you blame them? Right now they're supporting two different program cores. I'm sure they want to get as many people as possible on 4.0, when it's released, so they can deal with one program core vs. two.My best guess is sometime in Jan to see a production ready release. It's important to remember, there will always be bugs. Not a single piece of software is bug free... unless the software is super simple. So, even after the final release of 4.0 there are bound to be bugs that pop up here and there. IMO as long as the bugs aren't security related... I'm not too worried. They've been running 4.0 on this forum for awhile, so as you can see, the program is already pretty stable (from a security and usability position).
craigf136 Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 I'm the same Bluto, I've started the downgrade on features from 3rd party apps, so that when it is released we can switch over to it pretty swiftly. I have started the styling of 4.0 already and everyone is eager to get switched over. We have pretty much down a ground up integration. Only really got the main news page to create but need to sort out 3 x 2 style template for it.

It's a lot easier to design with 4.0 than it was with 3.4.x. Thank God WebDav is GONE! Love the new template editing ability... that was one of my biggest gripes with 3.
DudeThatsErin Posted December 21, 2014 Author Posted December 21, 2014 @craigf136 I love your idea for a forum. I freaking hate those zombies! They freak me out every time I play BO. LOL I don't have the second version cause I (still) think it is stupid to have 2 of the same games.... except 1 has "better graphics" or a few minor changes. I hate how they come out from everywhere though. My biggest fear is someone coming at me from behind to hurt me in some way so when that happens in Zombies, I start screaming, literally. I can't play this game any later than 10 at night without someone yelling at me to shut up. XDThe template looks really good though! I may download the beta just so I can get a headstart on a customized theme. Thanks @Bluto for the help! I decided to customize a theme I already had installed that will be upgraded (just double checked) to 4 so, I'll be able to either redo those changes or scrap them when 4 officially gets released.
craigf136 Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 The forums been up and running since 2009, I got involved last year and switched it over to IPB (it was on phpbb) they didn't have anyone really that could help them and mods etc they had installed on phpbb were pretty much broken, they had attempted a conversion to vBulletin and that failed and the forum was pretty much broken. I recovered the lost posts to vBulletin and imported them into IPB, converted phpbb and resolved the problems, it's a great community.Got them onto 3.4 and the plan was to do a full redesign within the year on V4 - now just a case of waiting on the final release and additional 3rd party apps to switch over.
The Jimmo Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 In this topic late but keep in mind skins/themes from 3.4 won't work in 4.
DudeThatsErin Posted December 22, 2014 Author Posted December 22, 2014 Oh, yeah, that's right. The skins are completely rewritten as well. That's fine. The customized skin I made on THMCC can be trashed once the upgrade is done or I can use bits and pieces to make a similar theme.
