Earl Grey Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 There doesn't currently seem to be a mod that permits this and I think it would be a fine addition to the site if you were able to place the sidebar on every page. This doesn't have to be a compulsory option, you could turn it on and off, but I personally would love to see this!
Earl Grey Posted May 19, 2012 Author Posted May 19, 2012 but doesn't the global sidebar mod do just that? No, it allows you to set a custom sidebar for every page, but not the index one with all its features.
esquire Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 +11. I'm surprised this isn't standard. It's almost too standard to assume it's not standard!
eGullet Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 I was convinced when they first released version 3 with the sidebar on the index that any moment they would add a setting allowing it to be displayed on all pages, it seems like such a glaringly obvious idea. I would bet that if you look at your board's numbers, only a fraction of people are arriving via the board index, and many people never see that page at all. For us it's about 15%: everyone else is coming directly into a topic via a search engine, or has bookmarked some forum page. So we put effort into making the "landing page" great and then no one lands there! I can't put anything important in the sidebar because so few people see it.
Benny. Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 + 1 also perhaps IPS can tell us how to change the code to work around until such time as its made into a setting. :)
eGullet Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Unfortunately it's not so simple: a lot of the CSS will only work right on the index page. I think that ball is in Invision's court on this one.
