Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
steve00 Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 That has got me thinking .... perhaps if you do something really bad then maybe there is one that says '$1000 reward if you get this error'
tAPir Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 "System Error - You're an idiot" I resemble that comment. but ... How did they know :)
LeadCrow Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Easter eggs are common. Here's another. Try advanced search and search for members (so that you have zero results)."System Error - Nobody here but us chickens!"Made that one up.
Breadfan Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 "You're an idiot" Yes, it definetelly means IPS staff think their customers are idiots. I do wonder though, why would anyone spend hours and hours trying to accomodate those "idiots", answer the support tickets, release updates and bug fixes, provide quality service? But who cares really, calling me an idiot when I make a stupid mistake in Admin CP, where only I can see the message is just..unforgivable. Switching to VBulletin now!
RobertMidd Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 I'm with Breadfan except I am off to Xenforo, I am so upset at being called an idiot. :o
Planetby Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 I think its brilliant to find these, lightens up the day with a good chuckle
Enkidu Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 It's funny but imagine a smart idiot who would sue IPS for calling him an idiot
Jinkler Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 I want that error message... How on earth did you get it?

Warzone Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 haha, well you are an idiot if ya dont tick the boxes xD hahaha xD nice one :D
rastaX Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 It is funny. But also not very professional. The word idiot is fairly insulting. You guys are making personal judgments about whether it offends you personally, which is fine. I personally am not insulted by it. (rather enjoy that kind of flip stuff coming from unexpected places) But the statement itself is fairly insulting and in business it is never a good idea to insult ones customers. Just sayin'. I would be very surprised if that was left intentionally and didn't slip by.
Fishfish0001 Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 If you have such a major flippin' problem about it, then just edit the dammed file and change the language string. Your taking this way to far over one tiny thing, that barely affects anyone. You seem to like making a big deal out of things just for the attention. Drop it, its 3 words, and its not doing any harm.
AndyF Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 There are other 'fun' messages too ;) although that's the only one that does say 'idiot' as far as I recall :)
Brandon D Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 I'm thinking/hoping it was left in by mistake -- it's pretty funny from my perspective but I can see how it could be offensive. IPS has a lot of humorous but appropriate error messages -- this one on the other hand could be considered a bit blunt and isn't helpful at all.

Management Charles Posted December 16, 2010 Management Posted December 16, 2010 Pretty sure it was just a developer, probably years ago, amusing himself. It will be removed in a future version :)

Management Charles Posted December 16, 2010 Management Posted December 16, 2010 In that case, it's even funnier with a British accent.......... I find most things are.
sefla Posted December 16, 2010 Author Posted December 16, 2010 Again... as the OP I wasn't offended as much as didn't expect to see such an error message and thought for a moment my board may have been hacked. Also, the error I made wasn't such an idiot mistake, like attempting to delete sytem files. It was more a haste mistake of simply clicking too fast trying to stop a spammer running amok on my Forums A more appropriate "goof" message would have been like "Whoa there buddy", not "You're an idiot" Hopefully IPB's "goofyness" is limited to their error messages and not other areas of the software.
Jinkler Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Hopefully IPB's "goofyness" is limited to their error messages and not other areas of the software. I'm sure you'll test it out and let us know of any hilarious faux-pax's though yeah :)
sefla Posted December 16, 2010 Author Posted December 16, 2010 I'm sure you'll test it out and let us know of any hilarious faux-pax's though yeah :) No, only an idiot would do that.. <_<
RobertMidd Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 I like this one ^_^ That is good, it is a language string called 'mod_stupid_beggar'
Martin A. Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Speaking of lang strings'emo_does_NOT_describe' => "Keith J. Kacin",
