Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
NVGADeveloper Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Is there a private chat room feature for IP Chat? We are thinking of starting to use it for meetings but obviously we only want the room to be for select people while the public one is open!!
NVGADeveloper Posted November 24, 2010 Author Posted November 24, 2010 Do you know when some of these IP Chat changes will come into effect bfarber. Seems like their are a lot of changes that people want and the chat really needs!!
bfarber Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 I can not give you an expected time frame for any specific features, I'm afraid.
Kellie Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 This is definitely a feature I would like to see! :)
hturner1 Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I agree. That would be a really good feature to have. Looking forward to the next chat release!
Fantleas Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 Sorry for bringing back an old post, but this is really a nice suggestion. It's been a while since the last IP.Chat update, so you should definitely consider this feature for the next version! I need this as well for my IP.Chat and a google search of this feature brought me here. :P
Cheapy Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 IP Chat appears to be as no-frills as possible. I hope it gets a few more features.
Fantleas Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Bump! I noticed IP.Chat 1.4 is being developed, so you guys should definitely take this suggestion and use the update to add this incredibly useful feature! :D
changeindia Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 yes, this is a must recommended feature, considering IP Chat 1.4 is in development, it would be great if they introduce this feature with the new update.
Bethanyrayne Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 It appears the timeframe is being counted in years.
Digityman Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 I agree this would be helpful. Almost every chat software out there has the ability to have nearly unlimited chat rooms. Look at Ajax chat, FlashChat by Tufat and so on.... When you allow groups on your forum, there should be away to allow them in the chat. However, I wouldn't stop there. The admin should be able to make as many different 'rooms' with in IP Chat. For example, say it's a baseball site --- 1 room for each team so that fans of those teams could chat together in their own room. Then add the groups on the ACP so that the admin can select which groups are allowed to access what room(s). I believe this is the missing piece to IP Chat right now
Digityman Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Bumping this as hopefully we will see IP Chat 2.0 coming VERY soon.
Digityman Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 I couldn't wait any longer and found a way to do this. Arrowchat allows the creation of unlimited chatrooms and fully integrates with IP 3.2.3. I'm hoping that you guys really start looking hard at IP Chat because I know of at least one member (with a 250 user subscription) is not renewing the IP Chat license
changeindia Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 well, i don't see many members coming to chat, even in this forum where their are like 800 members online at at a time, their are hardly any members in chat. The current IP.Chat does not have any features except private chat and general chat  I would expect a new IP.Chat with much more features incl this come along with 3.3

People will use a chat room if they have a desire/need, not because it has a specific feature they are fond of. Most of our clients simply have more important things to attend to than sitting in our chat room here (which is simply intended to be a live demo anyone can check out).

BFarber - Could you please give us an update on IP Chat? Is there any news of an upgrade to allow multiple rooms? Or user created rooms? I find it strange that all of these 'other' forum/board/chat systems allow unlimited chatters and unlimited rooms on their systems but IP Chat doesn't.
bfarber Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 We do not have any publicly available information on the next version of IP.Chat yet I'm afraid. When we do, it will be posted to our blog. :)
