Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted July 21, 201014 yr I would like to have the option of PMing myself... I found I OFTEN email myself things to remember or whatever and would like to have that option to do it in IPB
July 21, 201014 yr I used to do that all the time in 2.3 and previous versions. Was disappointed when I saw it wasn't possible in 3.x.
July 21, 201014 yr Plus one. Would help for my apps.. with how it is now if an admin is set as the "PM Sender" for some action, then that admin can't perform that action (or at least they won't get a PM about said action).
July 21, 201014 yr I don't think this should be possible... if you want to store things there are many more better solutions in my opinion.
July 21, 201014 yr I see absolutely no reason not to be able to PM yourself. Much quicker for testing if nothing else.
July 21, 201014 yr Author Seriously I email myself at least 4 times a day from work to remind me of things to do when I get home... it'd be perfect to be able to PM myself.
July 21, 201014 yr couldn't you create an alias user and just PT your alter - ego? or just make a forum for your eyes only?

July 21, 201014 yr I have a feeling this capability is unlikely to return. When it was "PM" it wasn't a big deal. Now we have "Personal Conversations", and the magic code behind the scenes to handle that makes doing this a little trickier and less ideal. Not that it's impossible of course, but there's not many good justifications for such functionality when you already have a notepad in your usercp for the most common use case for having said functionality (saving notes for yourself).

Are you saying the way things are coded it is easier not to be able to PM your self? I thought perhaps being able to PM yourself was specifically removed for some reason. Either way, to me, that feature is not really important to me, whatever is simplest & cleanest.
July 21, 201014 yr thread brought back a memory the calendar already provides the framework for a private organiser i remember in days gone by an actual mod for this suppose the bones of it was basically just an alternative means of entering a private event and then displaying it shame never went any further
July 21, 201014 yr Nah that's complicated. Complicated? Creating a forum only visible by you, really?
July 21, 201014 yr Couldn't you just make a PM in the database if you really needed it for testing/ Build an external Pm system for testing...:|
July 21, 201014 yr If you absolutely need to test, just create a dummy account and send a PM to yourself using that account. That's what I do when creating skins.
July 21, 201014 yr Talking to yourself could be considered a problem ;) You'll be surprised how many people do!
July 21, 201014 yr I suppose devs will now just have to include 2 PM Sender settings. 1 main member_id and one backup (in case the the member with the main ID happens to be the recipient). Not that big a deal, but still, a bit funky. :)

IPB can still send a PM from one user to himself, but users cannot through the interface.
July 23, 201014 yr I see absolutely no reason not to be able to PM yourself. Much quicker for testing if nothing else.
July 23, 201014 yr Talking to yourself could be considered a problem ;) Not really, it's when you answer yourself which is would be a problem  Anyway, I would use the note pad in ACP, i've found it to be quite useful.
