Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
Morrigan Posted July 2, 2010 Author Posted July 2, 2010 OK, then I agree with the checkboxes you propose, but make them all enabled by default including the popup notification  and bring back the 3.0.5 style popup with the nice buttons and proper wording! You can setup the defaults that you want in the ACP.
TestingSomething Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 I keep forgetting that inline doesn't already mean popup. That's what i had thought it meant when I was checking boxes because technically it could be viewed as inline.
Morrigan Posted July 4, 2010 Author Posted July 4, 2010 Right now inline is either or. You EITHER get an inline popup or an inline notification via the dropdown.
Abomination Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Right now inline is either or. You EITHER get an inline popup or an inline notification via the dropdown. Seriously? Which are popups and which are drop downs? That should really be clarified, especially because it is a user settable option that all members need to understand.
Morrigan Posted July 4, 2010 Author Posted July 4, 2010 Well if you have the popup checked then they are all popups. If you have it unchecked then it's the dropdown. That's the point of this thread. I'm pretty sure Brandon is leaning toward adding a setting for Popup to be user specific.
bfarber Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 Just add "Popup" to this: Yes, that's effectively what I said. Right now inline is either or. You EITHER get an inline popup or an inline notification via the dropdown. Close. If you select "inline" you ALWAYS get the inline notification in the dropdown. If you check the box to receive a popup notification, then you will ALSO get the popup. So it's "one or both" rather than "either or".

If you check the box to receive a popup notification, then you will ALSO get the popup. So it's "one or both" rather than "either or". Thank you. That is how I thought it was supposed to work. Notifications seem to work a bit sporadically on this site, possibly on our 3.1.0 test forum too. Still trying to figure it out.
SethT Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 As you have not seen the 3.0.x one, it looks like this... :) [img] [/img] I much prefer this one myself. Simpler and cleaner.
CCChatter Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I much prefer this one myself. Simpler and cleaner. Wow... how do I get that one?? These notifications to me are a bit convoluted. They pop up, but I can't seem to just click an "x" and delete them right then and there. I have to go to the seperate dropdown interface to delete/remove them, or they pile up in my sidebar. I don't understand my my notifications are not just linked to my read messages, and instead end up with notifications in one place and messages in another? I like the concept of "you have a message", you click on it, go to your message and read it, end of story. No seperate place to delete the "you have a message" notification. Maybe I'm missing something. Is this a situation where folks complained about something simple until it became something complex? lol!
Zhana Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Any plans to bring this system back? The new notification system is really annoying. Thank you.
Zhana Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Many of my forum members dont read pm, simply because they don't know if they received a PM. Kindly bring this system back in 3.2.x Thank you.
Michael Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 You can get the same popup when you get a new PM, just check the box for 'Show popup when I receive a new inline notification' and select Inline for the notification type for new PMs.
Rymich13 Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 For some reason, this doesn't work for me. :(
Michael Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Then you would want to submit a ticket to IPS in your client center, or post in the technical support forum about it.
Riccardo Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 I much prefer this one myself. Simpler and cleaner. I totalli agree with you. Are there any updates? Riccardo
DevilDamo Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Have just come across this thread via one of AndyF's posts. So... are IPS looking into having the older, cleaner popup notification return?
Dave Legg Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 I get frustrated with how much clicking i have to do to remove the notification after it has shown. Using the cleancut skin it shows up in three different places, and unless I click to view it from each link the notification wont vanish.

Maybe I'm missing something. Is this a situation where folks complained about something simple until it became something complex? lol! This! I totally agree. This is not a step ahead in usability, it makes everything only more complicated. If I've already read the message why would I want to be notified that it's still new? It isn't! Many of my users don't even know they got a PM, for it's so unobvious.
