Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
dieselpowered Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 The new software is geat with a TON of new features I am sure everyone will enjoy. One suggestion I have. is there any plans to add a renaming of links that are posted? Basically, is someone posts a link to this site, it would show the page title of this site versus the link. Does that make sense?
.Matt. Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Witch reminds me, how do you set IPB 3 to open links in a new window/tab?
Mark H. Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 ACP -> Live Search in ACP: links 4th entry on my install -> Open posted links in a new window?

Jmiz9000 Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Test http://forums.invisionpower.com/topic/285276-suggestion-for-3-0/ Howd you do that Michael?
dieselpowered Posted June 7, 2009 Author Posted June 7, 2009 Yes Michael like that...it is a feature of vbSEO, therefore, I thought with the FURL that exists in the new IPB, that would be a good option. Maybe, maybe not, but a suggestion nonetheless :)
Michael Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 You just use the URL bbcode, this has been something built in to IP.Board for years:[url=http://forums.invisionpower.com/index]Invision Power Services[/url]
Jmiz9000 Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Oh, I knew that, i was thinking, you just put in a link and it does it automatically :(
Michael Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Is that what vbSEO does? That doesn't seem like it'd be worth it. It would have to run all links through something like cURL to fetch the page source and extract out the page title value. That doesn't seem like it'd be worth it to me, but I'm no SEO guru.
bfarber Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 FURL = Friendly URL Has nothing to do with retrieving remote links. FURL and SEO are not mutually inclusive - that is to say, if we have "FURL" links in IPB, that doesn't mean we have every optimization feature one could imagine. What you are talking about is not a feature in IPB3 at this time. I could see it being a neat addition I suppose, but like Michael said, it would slow down the posting process a little.
