Find Template Bit Feature

Ever since I upgraded to 2.2, the "Find Template Bit" thing has always puzzled me in the skin editor. I upgraded from 2.0.4 to 2.2, but I think the change was made on 2.1 with the new ACP layout. That same feature on 2.0 and earlier was extremely helpful. I could find some HTML in the source code, search for it in the skin editor, and make the necessary changes. Now with the new search, I don't exactly know to to use it. Could anyone tell me the difference and maybe point me into the direction of why the change was made and that sort of thing, or maybe bring back the old search thing? Thanks.
