I found that after adding a test forum, I had to clear my cookies/temp internet files before I'd stay logged into the test forum.

this is because it's on the same server as my primary forum.

There's also a setting that you can change in the ACP under general settings, then cookies, "Create a stronghold auto-log in cookie?" that you can set to no, for problems staying logged in.

I've done all that, it makes no difference, every time I leave and go back I have to log in.

It has now stopped giving cookies. I login, it tells me I am logged in, then when the page loads I'm a guest again.

I had this issue as well, I went to > Tools & Settings > Cookies > Cookie Domain
After putting my domain.com in all was well. Just make sure to do it just like this: YOURDOMAIN.COM no http:// or www
