New: Calendar Event Reminders

This entry is about our IPS Community Suite 4.2 release.

There are many Calendar related improvements in 4.2 designed to make adding and engaging with events easier than ever before. First of these is Event Reminders.

Reminders are easy to create. Simply use the Set Reminder button shown on all future events and specify when you would like your reminder.

Receive inline or email reminders using the standard notification settings

Event reminders are a simple but often requested feature and we're excited to be introducing it with 4.2. Don't forget to follow the News & Updates section as we have many more announcements to help keep your members engaged.

Thank goodness. I've been waiting for this feature forever. Who ever heard of a commercial calendar product without a reminders feature? ;)

Will we be able to set up automatic reminders for members of specific groups (as administrators)?

Also, I assume that if the event is recurring  if you have an active notification, you will receive a notification every time the event recurs, until you cancel it. Is that accurate?

This is great to see, a long awaited feature. Thank you!

Please can you include the option to be reminded of member's birthdays that are already in the calendar as well as events. Currently the forthcoming events widget doesn't give you an option to include them, or better still a built-in dedicated 'Forthcoming birthdays/anniversaries' (anniversary of registering in the community) style widget would also be great, as opposed to just 'Today's Birthdays'.

My members like to post birthday topics on the special day for their friends, but often have to rely on the Today's Birthday's widget if they haven't manually checked the calendar each week, it often leads to belated birthday messages.

Keep up the great work!

Between this update, the aforementioned improvements, and some existing third-party enhancements to Calendar, I can safely say that the social infrastructure of my site is being given a boost this year. :)

YES!! [does a dance which would embarrass me if anyone could actually see it]

Great to see a reminders function finally implemented!  I can actually use my Calendar for important events with confidence now.

Excellent.  Ability to copy an event to another date would make it perfect! :)

I agree...would it be too much to ask, moreover, for some sexy drag-and-drop action for copying events (or deleting them for that matter)?

Should include

- Time in hours or minutes (eg. 1 hr before event starts)

- other forms or notifications like modal pop-up, desktop notification, and inline notification

I'm wondering if there shouldn't also be an option for a notification after the event telling you you missed an event...?

Yeah, I know, maybe that's overkill, but if someone is really busy, doesn't have notifications enabled and deletes emails left right and centre, a red-flagged notification that an event has passed might enable one to do some damage control if a deadline was missed or an event wasn't attended.  I'm thinking along the lines of Outlook Mail's timelines.
