Guidelines for Search in the form

Are there any guidelines for the best use of the search in the forum

for example how to use wildcards or except or and/or if that is possible

Im not sure what you mean in terms of best use. You can use * as a wildcard character. By default the platform uses "Any" for what words to use. You can change that to "All" within advanced search
