What should be the size (dimension) of feature (cover) image of blog post

So that it looks good in post view as well as blog view

There is no specific size, as it will change based on the size of the screen

however proportion of length and width matters 

else it does not show the same view  in blog listing & post listing  some portion cuts

it is the same image for both blog listing and post page

Actually it doesnt. If you narrow your screen, it will narrow that image only. So the proportion would also change
