Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
MSUKForum Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 Is there a way to show subscriptions in a store, like products? I also don't understand the difference between subscriptions and products, it looks like by creating a product you can set it to act exactly as a subscription would - so what really differentiates these?
opentype Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 Subscriptions were originally a sub-type of a regular product. People were often confused by that and a dedicated subscription system was added. So both systems are present now. You can have subscription products in the store and subscriptions which have their own section on the site. The functionality is also a little different. The subscription system is simpler. The user chooses one and can change between the different subscription. And the subscription you have is shown for each user (e.g. on the profile). The product subscriptions system allows more complex scenarios, e.g. buying multiple subscriptions at a time to access different areas of the site through secondary member groups. So yes, subscription in the store a possible when they are set up as product. I still use that. But if you already use the newer subscription system, it will not show as a regular product in the store. MSUKForum 1
MSUKForum Posted May 1, 2020 Author Posted May 1, 2020 Thanks @opentype that's very informative and clears it up. It's a shame it can't be on the store too as it would be good to sell with other things / upsell. I assume you can't add a subscription to your basket either with other stuff?
opentype Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 (edited) Yes, you can add product subscriptions to the cart with other products, as they are really just regular products. While the subscription system doesn’t use regular products, you can put it in the shop menu, as you see it here on the alpha site:https://invisionalpha.com/subscriptions/ Edited May 1, 2020 by opentype
