iadzemovic Posted April 2, 2020 Posted April 2, 2020 Hi guys- I need some assistance; I have collected avatars in a thread for my forum and I had put together a guide how-to use any of the avatars by taking the img-URL. But trying to do that I get this error: How can I enable people to use the avatars on the server?
Morrigan Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 @iadzemovic You may want to check your Link filtering settings: Dashboard > Settings > Posting > Links tab
iadzemovic Posted April 3, 2020 Author Posted April 3, 2020 These are my settings, nothing appears blocked
Morrigan Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 @iadzemovic what applications/plugins do you have?
iadzemovic Posted April 3, 2020 Author Posted April 3, 2020 nothing really. just installed a newly bought system
Morrigan Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 Okay I figured it out. Remote images are only permitted to be from a different domain. So it can be a subdomain like "avatars.sunsetbeachonline.com" or another website but you can't host the images from the domain you host the forum on apparently. I tested it on a personal install and this happened to me too. @iadzemovic
iadzemovic Posted April 3, 2020 Author Posted April 3, 2020 That's so wasteful. I have a whole gallery of avatars on the server for people to use. they have to upload them and waste space for something that is up already with a URL
Morrigan Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 If you self host and you have them all in the same folder (avatars) just create a subdomain called "Avatars" and use that folder. It will become avatars.sunsetbeach.com/therestoftheurlstuff.png and will be still on your server. I will note that even with remote URLs it downloads the image so that it can crop it so even using remote images isn't saving you space technically.
iadzemovic Posted April 3, 2020 Author Posted April 3, 2020 is there any way to feature the avatar gallery in the profile settings to just click the avatar wanted and use it
bfarber Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 There is no built in avatar gallery I'm afraid, and when you use "import from URL" the image file is actually fully imported as a new attached file. We don't support remotely linked images, except for social networking service profile photos.
