Why are Thumbnails and a teaser not in Record block output?

I just want a normal list of articles like you get on the Article view, but in a block. 

Is there any plug in or template anywhere that won't kill your site on the next point release that does this?

I really hope I am wrong, and I am just somehow missing how to do it.

Just bought SuperList  to try it out.

Really nifty plug in, seems to work great.  

I need vertical output of db records.  It just seems like such a standard thing.  I don't get what I am missing.

I don’t have one currently that is directly based on the article view with thumbnail and preview text.

Trying out both these plug ins now.  They work really well.

Any chance teaser text would be added in a future release?

I see Supertopics seems to do this, it looks fantastic.

Probably not. SuperGrid is images only.

I still find it very odd.

Given how this system rams the listing view into the same template as the content view, then it should provide better options for listing that content in blocks. 

I have never used a system that does not allow you to display thumbnail, title & teaser.   

We need to be able to display listings of our content on the front page in a way that does not, frankly, suck.
