Files and deleted post

If a post that contains an uploaded file is deleted is the file deleted with it?

I always notice the file remains. But then I thought I had deleted content active. Is the file deleted when the post is deleted completely after 30 days?

Not immediately, no - one attachment can be attached to multiple types of content, so the file is retained. A task is run every once in a while which will clear out attachments that are no longer attached to any content.
