Glitch, feature or setting? Commerce emails wrt to orders

I have these items for sale where people by 1 - many of them. 

When someone makes an order and changes the the quantity to 8, I get 8 emails. 

It doesn't seem to happen on every purchase, yet all of the different products are copied from the original. 

It's not a big deal, as I use the Pay Pal log to deal with the orders.    But does make finding things in Gmail really messy.
