OliverWilbur Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 Hi, is it possible to force any png uploaded image to be converted to jpg before being saved ? Unless i'm wrong, that would dramatically save bw and storage space and I have 0 reason to keep pngs.
Morrigan Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 While I don't know the answer to this (it may be a setting for GD or Imagick) however if the PNG has any transparency it will be lost by converting them to jpgs and a lot of people use PNG for transparency because it has more quality than a gif.
opentype Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 I get the point. PNG can really be a trouble maker in regards to the file size. The thumbnail creation can even create a much bigger file size, when the PNG is reduced in pixel size. But no, there is stock option to force image format types. It would need changes to the core files. Maybe a plugin can do it as well. So either you would have to make it a feature request for IPS or a (probably paid) request for a developer.
