#ESY Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 The admins can manage any group, but wouldn't it be better if we allowed any user to be able to manage a specific group? Say, we choose a group leader within the ACP, and that leader will be able to add and remove users from that group only. The idea is very simple. Although, there might be some difficult things to do, like: the leader should be able to add someone to his group without removing that person from other groups; when the leader removes someone from his group, that person should receive back as primary group his previous primary group (the group he had before he was added to the new group) etc. I had someone make something like this for me but has a few bugs. The best thing here would be for the official team to implement this. It would take something off the administrators minds, the group management thing. The admin would just create a group and set a leader, and the leader would manage it properly.
Rikki Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 This sounds more like social groups I think? It's something that has been requested quite a bit in the past I believe.

But the difference here is that what I'm suggesting won't allow any user to create a group, but the groups will be created by the admins and they can choose who can manage them. Say that we have a group called "Global Moderators" on our community. I want to choose a single user out of that group and make him the leader; I want to give him the power to be add or remove people from that group. He would be something like the Head of Global Moderators. No such thing as group portals or stuff like that, this wouldn't be a social feature. This would be a management feature. It would help administrators to run the groups better, by choosing a leader who's going to.. well, lead his group.
DSystem Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 And I thought I did not know how to do it at IPS !!! Another basic feature of SMF not present in the IPS. I am migrating my forum from SMF to IPS. I do not even know what I'm going to do now to get around this deficiency. I have several Group moderators. After spending time and money on this platform, I'm thinking and continuing on SMF.
#ESY Posted March 18, 2017 Author Posted March 18, 2017 My workaround is that I gave 3 of my moderators ACP access so they can manage groups, and the group leaders just PM those 3 moderators to manage their group. It's not perfect, but it kinda works. I've migrated from phpBB3 and there I had that option, but here... I'm just hoping that it might be added in 4.2.0.
