Hezeber Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Is there an option to disable these in the AdminCP? If not, is there some workaround?
Joy Rex Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 It depends on why you're wanting to disable the animation - it won't reduce bandwidth as a GIF will fully load regardless of whether it autoplays or not. This is typically a browser setting, but if you wanted to, incorporating a jQuery plugin like this one would work: http://rubentd.com/gifplayer/ If you are worried about GIFs slowing down your (or your users') browsers, you could disallow .GIF as an avatar file type.
Hezeber Posted September 21, 2016 Author Posted September 21, 2016 it isn't about bandwidth. They can be very distracting when trying to read static text and members who have problems with seizures/epilepsy have heath concerns with them. 17 hours ago, Joy Rex said: you could disallow .GIF as an avatar file type. Where?
Joy Rex Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Not sure about IPS4, but in IPB 3.4.9: Where it says "Allowed photo URL extensions" - a bit confusing considering it doesn't say "avatar". This might be the same in IPS 4.

Not animated gif - just remove the option to upload GIFs as an avatar type, and you won't need to worry about the animated part. PNGs are better for line art and graphics anyways.

That option is not available in IPS4 as I said, but there is Attachments restrictions in the Posting settings which can be used to disallow the gif file extension, but that seems to be only for posting.
Joy Rex Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Really? So in IPS4 you cannot define what file types can be uploaded for avatars? Wow...

Hezeber Posted September 27, 2016 Author Posted September 27, 2016 Thanks for confirming, Machsterdaemon. So silly that they would remove that feature.
