No.  IPS has previously stated that its purpose is content discovery, not content creation.  

You're looking for a Facebook feed.  It does not, will not, and is not intended to be that.

So what the point in having status updates as an option if the users cant find where to update them?

You make a good point! However statuses can be updated on the profile page.
