Connor Hawke Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 It's been a long time and I'm a little rusty... I have a database backup of a community I used to run and want to reopen on IPB 4 by upgrading from 3. I have uploaded the IPS files of the app versions matching the database backup. Now, do I install the suite first (after creating an empty database), or do I first upload the database backup and install afterwards? I tried the former first and got some weird error which I don't recall ever seeing before.
Connor Hawke Posted May 24, 2016 Author Posted May 24, 2016 Okay, I tried uploading the database first (using bigdump), but on installation I wasn't allowed to 'integrate' it so I chose to overwrite it. Again got an error: 'Unknown column 'field_9' in 'field list'' (sql error code 1054) Happened with mySQL query error: INSERT INTO ibf_ccs_custom_database_1
Rhett Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 You would need the file system too along with the database for a complete and proper upgrade (in the least the uploads folder) , do you have a full backup of the site or just the database?

Yeah. I uploaded the latest full backup I had, then uploaded files for newer versions so that they matched up with the versions in the database backup. More info here: https://invisionpower.com/forums/topic/429799-okay-to-import-ipb-3-sql-database-to-ipb-4/ So seems like it should be working but I got the error above.
Connor Hawke Posted May 24, 2016 Author Posted May 24, 2016 Tried just installing the core software (forums, members) instead of any of the other apps/extras and it worked. Which is cool as I just wanted the board anyway. Now to upload the database backup... Getting there.
steve00 Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 You just need to upload your IPB 3 files and the backup database you created with those IPB 3 files. Make sure everything is working on IPB 3 board If it is then upload the IPB 4 files and run upgrade (your_board_url/admin/upgrade) You then follow instructions Would first suggest you run the requirements checker to make sure you are able to run IPB 4 More info here or here
