Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
Captain Ginns Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 I'm kind of lost. I moved the files after unzipping and uploaded to my test site. When I logged in as Admin and went to the download button for Beat 3...I have to log in a gazillion time and then it goes back to the checklist page and looks like it starts over. But this time, when I log in, it goes to my root site instead of my test folder. I'm definitely doing something wrong. Is there a place on the new site admin where I can go and apply the changes seeing that I already uploaded them? Are there notes I can follow? Thanks. By the way: I uploaded a fresh copy 5 times and the same thing keeps happening.
Captain Ginns Posted December 6, 2014 Author Posted December 6, 2014 Update. The system starts updating because I get the update bar, but then it sops 1/4 of the way and comes up with this screen again.
Captain Ginns Posted December 7, 2014 Author Posted December 7, 2014 Update: Again I put up a fresh copy of Beat 2. Ten, downloaded the Beta 3 files and put them where they belong. Then uploaded the entire folder to the ips 40-Test folder on the host using FTP. I ran the upgrade went all the way to "Application" on the checklist then all of a sudden, I was thrown back to the Step: Login page. When I put in my password and click the Login button, I go to my root of my site, not the forum folder. I put up a screen shot. Again, this has been happing consistently at least 6 time now. I load fresh copies of Beat 2 then apply Beta 3 and upload. Don't have a clue on what happening. Any guidance would be appreciated. if I need to check something somewhere, please be very specific where to go and how to get there. Thanks in advance. By the way, my beta ips form is located at http://www.lynxairways.com/40-Test/ My Aviation site is located at http://www.lynxairways.com" --- This is where the Login button takes me.

Sorry. Can you provide just a few more details. Thanks.
Pete T Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 The forum if have Fresh 4.0.x notice showing the category " a test forum" and if click the forum tab will not take your to main forum page like below This view above can only be seen by adding second category in admin cp
Captain Ginns Posted December 7, 2014 Author Posted December 7, 2014 I see, but this is happening in the "Upgrade" process. While I'm upgrading. When the "Configuration" bar moves one quarter, I get thrown back to the "Step-Login" page and have to re-enter my password. So when I do, and click on the "Login" button: I leave the forum folder and go to the root of my non-forum site. Picture above shows the comparison of the "Ips Folder designated as my Test site" and my other web site that has nothing to do with the forum, except for the first part of the url. If that all makes sense. Now when I try to create a new "Category" I get this.......
Captain Ginns Posted December 8, 2014 Author Posted December 8, 2014 After almost 10 tries I give up. So I went to the IPS client site, downloaded the entire IPS 4.0 with beat 3 and uploaded a fresh copy of the entire thing. Didn't try to upgrade nothing. And it worked..... Finally. I think, just me, that better step-by-step instructions need to be developed for Beta 4. This upgrade from 2 to 3 was extremely difficult and I'm a semi-geek. Imagine someone who is not. Here is a link to my test site: http://www.lynxairways.com/40-Test
Pete T Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Captian Ginns is this fresh 3a beta 4.0.x or upgrade ?
Captain Ginns Posted December 8, 2014 Author Posted December 8, 2014 This a complete fresh copy of Beta 3. Had to remove the cellophane. and I'm up and running. But based on the experience with this, not sure I would upgrade my site yet to 4.0 from 3.7. I'm too scared to lose my data. Some real good step-by-step notes are needed with no assumptions on any knowledge or skill. But everything is good so far.

They actually state DO NOT do that anytime they release a beta update. Beta =/= Stable
