Thumbnails when linking to Facebook or other social media VS phpBB

When people post to Facebook a link to a phpBB forum post that contains a photo, the photo is shows up in its entirety in the Facebook post with captions below. It looks very nice. Whenever I post to Facebook a link to an IPBoard forum post that contains a photo it will show a "IPBoard" logo instead. This will make the link less engaging and less people would want to click it. Can this be changed? Does anyone else feel the same?

Did you change your Meta Image?

System Settings > Manage Settings > System > General Configuration > Meta tag: image_src (Facebook and other services use this when sharing links or syndicating content. Minimum size is 50px x 50px, with an aspect ratio of 3:1. {style_image_url} will be replaced with URL to current skin directory.

Thanks for your reply. I have not changed anything from the default. Currently the value for that field is "{style_image_url}/meta_image.png" (without the quotes). Is there something I can do to that value to make it show images of whatever image content the link contains (like phpBB)?

Facebook will scan the page you are linking to and look for the meta image AND any images on page. You will need to press the "next" button on Facebook to go to the other images on page. Sometimes it doesn't find them all or the one you're looking for FYI. I would strongly suggest that you change the meta image to your logo or something instead of the IPB logo so there isn't any confusion if someone else shares your links.

Sometimes it's a crapshoot of what shows up on Facebook with any website.
