TSP Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Could you please let us edit the first post in a bug report?I would like to edit in a new line in the code boxes here, but you don't let me do it  http://community.invisionpower.com/resources/bugs.html/_/ip-board/public-function-showerror-defaults-to-500-header-response-code-in-admin-r40958
bfarber Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 The problem is, a member could go back and substantially edit a bug report, wiping out valuable and important information. We suggest simply replying with any corrections or additional information. It's fine for us. :)

The only change I would do to the mentioned bug report would be to add a new line inside the code box. If you have access to editing it, feel free to do so. Just thought it's simpler to see what I copied if it's on two lines in those two code boxes as it should have been. (I'm close to blaming the editor for ignoring the new line I'm sure was there before submit, but I'm not really sure.)
bfarber Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 IP.Content doesn't support time-limited editing at the moment. It's something we can consider in a future release.

Wolfie Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Unless I'm mistaken on this, what I believe is the real reason is that to allow a member to edit it, it would allow all members to edit it. Unless I'm misunderstanding some of the IPC database options, which is quite possible. It is what it is. Submit the report and if something needs to be changed, add a reply or if it's urgent (left something in you didn't mean to) then report it with an explanation and a staff member will attend to it. Simple enough.

Simple enough. The "wiki-style edits" database option controls whether every member with the "edit records" permission can edit a record, or only the record's creator and any relevant moderators. This is configurable.

This is configurable. I had tried that option and I could swear that it either prevented the record owner from editing or it prevented others from seeing it. Will have to test again, maybe I goofed it somehow.. Wouldn't be the first time.
bfarber Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 No, you can allow only the starter to edit the report. And yes, we can retain revisions to compare. However when we're working through a list of 50 bugs or something, we aren't frequently going to be browsing through past revisions of the report. :) Really, just adding a comment is sufficient I think. :) Typically you're just trying to add more information or clarification - we're not concerned about typos in the bug tracker.
