Member Configurable Default Fonts

Please give us the ability to allow members to set their own default font, size, and color to be used in their own posts.

The Customize Posts add-on is nice in theory, but it winds up adding excessive load time. It doesn't actually change the font of the post, it merely seems to mask the appearance of it.

It'd be great to be able to change the settings of the editor itself so that the actual font settings are used for posts instead of a mask laid over the default font.

Do you like rainbow?

In my opinion this function will make forum unreadable. It will be hard to fight the abuse of this feature. Moreover, I can not imagine a big and serious forum, where it is required. So, i think anyone who need this can use a hook but it must not implemented in default IPB.

Of course it's just a mine opinion.

You're just showing that you don't know anything about what I'm requesting.

:) Yeah, even if what Jay is asking for was implemented, no one would actually be able to do a "rainbow" font. :P

Unfortunately, this thread has cropped up in the past and IPS has the exact same logic. It's not going to happen.

I'm pretty sure he does. If you give people the ability to set their own default font face, color, and size, some people will set their default to 24pt pink Comic Sans.

That wasn't what I was refuting and considering Makie understood my point, I'm shocked that it seemed to shoot over your head.

I don't see how it would be such a terrible feature. Just set the font information in each member's cookies, and have the editor pull it when it's opened up.

We've been using a customized font hook for over a year, and have not once experienced this "rainbow, 24 point comic sans pink" b/s that detractors like to crow about. Believe it or not, people generally want their posts to be read.

...what's that supposed to mean? >_>;

And I've had this feature back on 2.3 and never had anyone using a ridiculous font that annoys people. Granted if such a feature were to be added I would certainly use an obnoxious font here on IPS.

That wouldn't bother me. I'd just ignore your posts. :)

I wouldn't mind it as long as there would be the option to ignore everyone's font formatting, which would ruin every post with any kind of formatting.

We run two themes on our community one with a light background and one with a dark background and as such sometimes a user of one theme doesn't take into account the colour difference of the other theme making their post unreadable on one.

I think it's a must have included feature to the forums, conversations and blogs etc. However I don't think it has to be too complicated but better than simply removing all formatting from posts content. All it really needs is and option say in the top right of the post content screen or along side the posted date and time that allows the reader to adjust the text size of the post if needed and/or add contrast to the font, much like the features you can find on tablet readers and the like. :ike:
