Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
7Bya9K&Q Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Hello. All of this has been asked a million times, and I have gone through and read a great deal on all of it. But most of the questions about cleaning up your server and making it run faster or very advanced. These seem to be brought about by problems people have. I really don't have any problems and am just looking for a few tips to clean my server up (to maximize space) and to maybe speed it up if possible. Nothing at all fancy, just some little tricks that many people might overlook. If you have any, I would greatly appreciate hearing them. Thanks guys.
Dmacleo Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 its not cleanup related, but I setup crons (and I don't have the info at hand) to optimize databases every night.
7Bya9K&Q Posted July 20, 2012 Author Posted July 20, 2012 I've setup some crons and it looks pretty good. I also realized that I had some crons set that served absolutely no purpose. Is it ok to disable those?
Dmacleo Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Change sessions table to memory engine. :D had heard that mention before but don't know procedures or benefits, can you expand?
Grumpy Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 had heard that mention before but don't know procedures or benefits, can you expand? Basically, memory engine is the fastest thing there is. But very volatile since a reboot/power out/etc will cause a wipe of data. But lost sessions aren't a big deal. Users are just logged out. So, you can afford to put it in the fastest medium.
Dmacleo Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 I'll be damned..looks easy enough a caveman (me) could do it. will try that. does this affect topic read/unread status at all? I suspect NOT as thats (if selected) using different table in DB.
TracyIsland Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 hey fat black cat: let us know what you find from your cave drawings would love to try this technique on our new vps media temple set up - bengal cat wanna one

Dmacleo Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 ok I set it up and am testing now. initially no detriments, no idea (yet) on performance.
