Marquinhos Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 is to hide the license key area of administration? so other administrators do not have access.
Nuclear General Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I don't see why they didn't do this in the first place... it's a license key. Only the main admin/owner should be able to see the license key. +1
Alex Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 It's not a feature and because its part of Tools and Settings - you can't restrict it easily either. I'll move your post to the feedback forum where it may get more attention :)
Mark Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 The license key will be of no use to anyone if it is already activated :)All it essentially is is a common identifier to our hosted services like the spam monitoring service and IP.Chat. Unless accessed from the licensed URL it can't do anything, and if you try to use a license key that is already active, it'll just say "That key has already been activated".
Fishfish0001 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 But technically couldn't another Admin delete the key from the ACP, then take it to their forums or whatever?
Nuclear General Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 But technically couldn't another Admin delete the key from the ACP, then take it to their forums or whatever? I agree...
jonsidneyb Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I doubt it will happen again but I did give a person once a huge amount of access. They actually moved my forum to another server and took the domain name. I got everything back but it was difficult. I think on something like this you can't be too careful.
Rymich13 Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 But technically couldn't another Admin delete the key from the ACP, then take it to their forums or whatever? In theory, no. The "administrator" would have to have the same URL in the IPS Client Area WITH an IP.Board license to associate with. It's useless to anyone else but yourself.

It's useless to anyone else but yourself. Unless you made them an alternate contact...in whch case you messed up a long time ago. :P
Rymich13 Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Even making an alternate contact, they would not have access to the packaging unless you set that permission for access. Although I doubt he gave any alternate contact for his IPS Client Area. I know I wouldn't...
Aisha Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Yeah I don't have any alternate contacts. I wouldn't trust anyone unless I knew them in real life.
Marquinhos Posted August 18, 2010 Author Posted August 18, 2010 The only solution is to restrict access to some administrators by clicking on the tab - members - Manage ACP Restrictions

It's useless to anyone else but yourself. Actually, your URL is set from IP.Board only now. Basically when you enter your License Key in your ACP, it reports back to IPS what your Board URL is and it shows in your Client Area. In all honesty, that is the dumbest idea IPS has ever come up with. I would much rather like to set the URL MySelf!!! Like it was before they changed all this crap to "Automatic". It's retarded to be honest... The only solution is to restrict access to some administrators by clicking on the tab - members - Manage ACP Restrictions There are no ACP restrictions for the license key section... there needs to be one though
