Hi IPS. I'm presently an admin on a IPB 2.2.2 board. We are looking at updating to IPB 3.1. I have some issues I was wondering if you could help me out with.

1. I can't post in all the forums here. I can't go into peer-to-peer section to ask some questions.

2. Our forum agreement with IPS includes free updates. However I'm personally not on the list as an IPS customer. I understand the original forum starter has to add people. Is that correct?

If he adds me then can I access all the sections? Including hidden blogs and stuff?

3. Skin maker. You have a tool here to change skin colors. I can't access this section. Is it possible somebody can do screen shoots of it so I can see what it's about.

Again our present agreement with this company includes unlimited updates and presently we are looking to do so but the past tech people are no longer with the company. Thx.

Hi,
In order to get support you will need to either log a ticket to get your account updated here or if that is not possible I would suggest an email to sales@invisionpower.com and they can perhaps help you with your account.

The resource and peer to peer forums, as well as the skin generator, are available to active customers only. What the account holder can do is add you as an alternate contact on their account, and you will then have access to whatever packages they add you as an alternate contact for.

Here's the biggest question. Can I upgrade from ipb 2.2.2 to ipb 3.1 without disruption? Will my forum's existing topics, posts and membership remain intact? I got 6 years of existing posts and membership, I don't want to lose that and start again.

I'll probably renew my maintance contract and get IPS to do this upgrade since the jump will be like going from Wins98 to Vista64. The specific modding I can do myself. My only real mods are html and CSS mods. I know I will need a new look/skin but I want to be positive the data won't be lost.

THX all so far for the help. :)

I would also like to add:

What version of SQL do I need for ipb 3.1 Now IPB 3.1.1

Do I need SQL (server panel) access or just forum directory access to have this upgrade done?

I would suggest renewing (you would have to do this anyway with most licences to get the download) and getting IPS to do it if you are not sure. if you do it yourself make sure you backup both your files and your database.

I am not sure on the policy for upgrading for you once 2.x becomes EOL - but am sure a staff member will clarify this.

Yes, we still perform upgrades for people running 1.0.

So long as your license is active, etc. etc. - we're happy to upgrade you to the latest version. In fact, for very old versions, quite frequently it's best if you get us to do it, as there are a lot of small "gotchas" that can pop up.
