pandoraserbe Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Hi, are there any plans for supporting XMPP (also know as „Jabber“) in the future? XMPP could be a great alternative for the email notifications: The user could receive a short message and link to incoming new private messages or changes in subscribed threads and blogs. Group chat is also possible. This would also increase the integration with other services, as XMPP is the foundation of the facebook chat (alone more than 400 million members), GoogleTalk, iChat and various other. I think this would be a very useful enhancement. Regards, Friedrich (http://www.pandoras-erbe.de technical staff)
Robulosity2 Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Using facebook chat as a feature isn't really a sound idea since it's a pile of crap =D
pandoraserbe Posted March 19, 2010 Author Posted March 19, 2010 Maybe facebook's implementation is, I don't know. But XMPP is very flexible and used by many other services, too. And nearly every other instant messanging program knows it: iChat, Pidign, Kopete, Trillian, Miranda, Adium
bfarber Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 I tend to doubt we'd build in XMPP notifications to IPB. I don't think it holds enough usage to warrant the amount of development time it would take to implement.
pandoraserbe Posted March 20, 2010 Author Posted March 20, 2010 Ok, i suspected this. No problem, I'll build it myself.
