Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
Dll Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Hi, we're using the status update hook, and our members love it but we're starting to see instances of people joining to spam it, which isn't so helpful. I know we could stop new members from editing their profile but that seems a bit draconian, so it would be really good to see a per usergroup option to disable the ability to do status updates. Any chance? Cheers
vesperala Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 worse is that even validating members can update their status. I have a ticket with this..:( i do not complain about members, if they do something wrong, I have moderators. but validating? this already is a stupid moment.

I think that IPS should set it to use system settings to determine who may/may not post updates. You could select the groups to forbid from using it, then all other groups can do updates, but the forbidden groups can only see it.
vesperala Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 for me would be ok even everyone can use update, if is a member... but validating are not members. >_< I forgot to test what about banned members...
Management Matt Posted July 22, 2009 Management Posted July 22, 2009 Simply turn off the ability for validating members to view or edit their profile information for now. I think we probably do need to add a field per group to filter this out. Actually, I can do this with the bitwise options. I'll do it now.

Just to point this out but that doesn't prevent someone from using the status update feature on the board index. I haven't tested to see if it'll properly submit their updates, but it still gives them the option to do it.
Management Matt Posted July 22, 2009 Management Posted July 22, 2009 Done. Will be in 3.0.2. Too many template, lang and file edits to release a quick 'patch'.
vesperala Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Matthew, this is good :) I do let them edit profile, but status is something that appears on main page, and has much more audience. thank you

Wolfie Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Dll and vesperala: You should be smiling now, it's not often that a new feature gets added in the middle of a IPB series. Good job!
vesperala Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 smiling ..:) obviously ... and stars made me
Dll Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 Thanks Matt, this and the new anti-spam measures are much appreciated!
ll4ever Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 needs to also be editable through the profile page, not acp. not going to login everytime to change somebody's stupid spam msg. Code it for g_access_cp. it's not that hard really. have to send the profile id along with it
Graeme S. Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Is there a way to limit the length of the status messages?
