Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
boomvavavoom Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Hi,First off...I know I should redirect my request to the phonenumber here http://www.invisionpower.com/ or via the forums at IBbeyond (but they are offline) but please...I just have a simple questionI am a MODERATOR at an IPboard and we are flooding with SPAMmers...And I want to find the option to have to approve members before these new members start spamming the forum I help running...I have even gone as far as getting a Demo-forum to try something but I just can not find the correct feature!!My ADMIN also does not have this knowledge so I am imploring you to help me out!!SincerelyRichard BoomboomvavavoomADDgmail.com
stoo2000 Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 I must say, Spam was an issue on our forum too, but as soon as the new Captcha feature was implemented (2.2 I think) we've not had one problem at all, that's even using standard captcha settings, no extra fonts etc.Obviously you'd need to check you have the Captcha enabled as this would cut down 99% of spam.to setup advanced admin validation login to ACP > Tools & Settings > View General Settings > Security and Privacy > New registration email validation? > set to admin if required.
bfarber Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 I recommend having the admin submit a ticket.1) With the new captcha configured properly, it's practically impossible for the bots to get through (at least at this time - things do change eventually)2) It is quite possible to require admin approval of members
PKIDelirium Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Yeah, I've only had ONE bot get through since 2.2's advanced captcha, and that was one recently when I'd temporarily turned off user email validation to test something. I've never had a bot get through both layers.
boomvavavoom Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 I recommend having the admin submit a ticket.will tell him thatYeah, I've only had ONE bot get through since 2.2's advanced captcha, thanks all!!So I would have to have an extra addy!! OK!!2) It is quite possible to require admin approval of membersI am actually also an ADMIN...and have the use of the ADMIN Control panel as well...So you are suggesting there is also a standard feature for pre-approval of members before they even can start posting/spamming?
Mark Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 So you are suggesting there is also a standard feature for pre-approval of members before they even can start posting/spamming?Yes, as stoo said:to setup advanced admin validation login to ACP > Tools & Settings > View General Settings > Security and Privacy > New registration email validation? > set to admin
