Invision Community

I wouldn't mind seeing invision developing a complete community website suite. That was always the one thing that bothered me about IPB. It's pretty close to that now with chat and gallery being added to forum, but sometimes everything being based through the forum is not the most appealing way. It would be cool if Invision had something similar to this.

Ofcourse it wouldn't be exactly like this, but it would nice to have a whole package that makes it seem like the whole site is integrated not the main site and the forum being two different sites. Then each section:main page, chat, forum, gallery, etc could be a module that you can apply different skins to.

With the coming of IPD, tighter integration of your outside site with the forums would be very easy to do. At present, it's up to the site owner to integrate their outside site with IPB, as it is beyond our means to do that unfortunately. But IPD and IPB could use similar if not the same html templates (and CSS), and they can use the same database, etc.

I agree 100%. One problem I had with IPG (one of many) was that it's hooked onto the forum. I wanted something more like a coppermine gallery, that would then be intergrated with the forum so a user only needed 1 log in. So I could have www.mydomain.com/gallery and www.mydomain.com/forum. Then be able to use something like IPD to manage news content and pull things from the forum and gallery (last 10 posts, last 10 images uploaded, who is online etc).

It doesn't seem like this was considered when they gallery was developed (or maybe it's something they have in mind now). Who knows. All I know is right now the products don't look like they'll sit together how I'd expect them to.

So yes, I totally agree. :)

The IPG looks and works has always been an issue for me. I went to go find an old post of mine for a link to a gallery I liked. I see that we like the same one.

I don't know if we'd need neccesarily better integration if we had an entire community suite like PHPizabi. Then it would be as simple as changing the index.php to match the way you wanted the site to look.
