  1. Since the warning system is the main discussion on this topic, I will also ask a question about the warning system. Where are the warning logs located at in 4.3.6?
  2. I already did provide the one and main reason on why friend should not be even considered or changed to follower. Are you a business using forum software just for business? Are you a leader of a cult where you need or want followers and not friends? IPB is changing things that should not be changed just to follower other social medias thus leaving their roots of what IPB use to be. I will reiterate and post again in this post as I already did: Anyway his point as well as a lot of folks including myself that is, IPB use to be a leading and cutting edge designer with forum software long before the other "social medias were even a thought", it was unique, different, and better laid out especially in the admin cp than all other forum software I have used and demoed, but the dramatic switch in the attempt to copy the face book, pay-pal, twitter, and what ever else there is out there, IPB is taking a step away from their unique design and have themselves turned into followers.
  3. I do not know how long you have been using IPB, but for Woodsman and myself we both have been using IPB for 10+ years seeing a lot of changes with the software with some being excellent and others not worth a wooden nickel. Anyway his point as well as a lot of folks including myself that is, IPB use to be a leading and cutting edge designer with forum software long before the other "social medias were even a thought", it was unique, different, and better laid out especially in the admin cp than all other forum software I have used and demoed, but the dramatic switch in the attempt to copy the face book, pay-pal, twitter, and what ever else there is out there, IPB is taking a step away from their unique design and have themselves turned into followers. If you want to be a follower, then by all means be a follower, but IPB has never been a follower until recently and me personally being an old timer I am not use to this and cannot figure out why "if it ain't broken, why try to fix it" Removing Friend and changing to Follower does sound like a cult or making the individual user sound more like a business.
  4. Andy Listen you are a smart guy and very helpful with your knowledge, but please you and everyone else stop talking like this license is some kind of monster created in the lab that is uncontrollable or repairable. All IPB has to do is set our accounts to have the same download privileges as we did before, charge us what we paid per year, and be done with it, but no they want to discard us like we are nothing, that is part of what has everyone up in arms along with this crap that our licenses are such black sheep they cannot do anything with it.
  5. Okay so now the 3% are crap to you people, we helped out when it was needed and now you spit in our faces and tell us we are crap since we are such a low number. Way to go Lindy, that is cool of you to do that and appreciate it. Anything else we need to do for your company, can we waste money on more lies and broken promises, commitments, etc??? Oh and Lindy you can take all the offense you want, you and IPB are cheating us period, you are not holding up to your contract and agreement!!
  6. LOL The link in the e-mail did not work for me, you have to use password recovery to go through all of that to get to the questions, then proceed.
  7. I understand that other companies may have done wrong, however my licenses are perpetual licenses and not the lifetime licenses which IPB also offered before the perpetual license. This is the guarantee and selling point for my licenses and why I purchased them: Upgrades for life Telephone support and ticket support for 1 year - $30 per year thereafter. There is not somebody who thinks they are being unfairly treated, it is somebody / along with others who purchased the perpetual license for the guarantee and to help support IPB are being unfairly treated. NO that was not listed anywhere at the time of my purchases, if it had of been then I know I would not have purchased the perpetual licenses and I bet I am not the only one who would have not made the purchase. It is easy for anyone to chime in here and make a comment, well that is okay, oh I understand, it will be fine, etc., etc., but if you do not own a perpetual license why are you commenting? Non perpetual licensed / regular license members this topic does not pertain to you nor are you the one being told your purchase is not going to be honored and your licenses are changing.
  8. Well I have to ask since I own 3 perpetual licenses myself, my question to your above statement is when IPB cut off support to the ones that choose not to upgrade and stays with 3.4.6? Also you are correct the internet has evolved, along with coding, etc. so how is "moving forward as a company" and not living up to the obligations of purchasing perpetual licenses that we purchased to help this company out back in the day? When I purchased my licenses there was nothing that stated software upgrade, revamp, new structure, etc. was excluded and our perpetual licenses would be restructured, changed, modified, or no longer valid.
  9. Not acting like a victim, just stating the facts. If you do not want to read it just move along.
  10. Just a idea Amged makes a Pro contact form, with this application you can set it to Create a Topic instead of a e-mail and in the Forum area you designate for the topic to be created set it where it requires Staff approval "this makes it where no spam can go live on your forum". >Link Raw has a contact form also, but it never came up on the quick search. I have Raw' version and use it for e-mail contact only.
  11. Yep but IPB thinks there is nothing wrong with the warning system and it functions like it should be. The unicorn 4.0 is going to have the fix "so they say", this is going to be the biggest thing since pocket on a t-shirt I tell ya.
  12. Thanks for the Topic GreenLinks, I sent the info to my hosting company and they got on it immediately to correct this issue.
  13. Thank goodness, between the slow load times, the site switching from Costa Rico, Europe, and USA everytime you clicked on a forum, topic, pm center you never knew how long it would take to load. The IPB site has been running really good lately.
  14. Excellent idea, I did this for the basic stuff, how to post images, etc on my forum using the Tutorials.
  15. If he owns the site then it is his right to spy on whom ever is in the cp, but if you would not be so fast to jump on someone with this nonsense and think just a minute you "might" realize it is a good idea. I agree security is the key and I think this would be a good addition. If we are lucky enough to get this added, I personally think it would be more beneficial to notify the owners from failed CP log in attempts vs log in from staff with access. The turds trying to hack into cps' are more of a concern than my staff with cp access and like most everyone has seen failed log in attempts from members without access and when you check their IP at least for me they were mainly from three countries just being pains in the butt.
  16. Negative unless it drops off after or right at 200 days, I had a member stay in validation all spring and summer, we are talking well over 100 days then when he came back to the site during the fall he could not access his account, luckily he figured out he had changed his e-mail address and contacted me for a new one to be sent and validated
  17. KM, everyone that has purchased a IPB license has a legal, valid, and active license, the only thing Dylan and many others are guilty of is not renewing their support for the ticket center. Inactive support is a world of difference from inactive license and just because any Client here has not renewed their support on the 3.4.x software due to all this talk and hype for the 4.0 is not guilty of anything other than they cannot open a ticket on said license(s), so removing their Client status from the company forum is wrong and there is no way to justify it is the right thing to do to a Client. Then you have the Contributors that sell mods, apps, and /or skins in the market place right here on this very site which IPB gets a commission for those sales as well, so how can you sit and argue the demotion of Clients to begin with?
  18. Well maybe I misunderstood your first post, did you mean if someone wanted to change their e-mail that the notification for them to continue with the change and validate the e-mail address would go to the original e-mail address they had? Well I have not had that experience yet thank goodness, but I see your point with that also especially if they do not know how to follow directions that is could be confusing and irritating. I just like the fact if a member tries to change their e-mail address it sends the validation e-mail to the new e-mail address that way they cannot sneak in a invalid e-mail address and validate. Again if they are set up for notifications and they give a bogus new e-mail just to stop the notifications of the forums or topics they are following because they are too lazy to figure out how to stop the notifications, them if I am understanding and correctly reading your post if the system sends the validation to the good and original e-mail and they follow validation, then we the owners will get the flagged e-mails from the invalid account.
  19. I see what you are saying, but I disagree the way it is now is pretty much fool proof with the validation e-mail going to the new e-mail address listed and if that e-mail is invalid we the owners are notified and can cancel the request. The system putting them into validating group is no a biggie to me, I honestly think if they cannot access the site features then that will make them more responsive to validating their new e-mail.
  20. Sure admin can validate every user, it is located in the admin cp: System Settings / System / Security [Managing Members] Select from the four options there to validate a member. As far as subscribing a member to a different group due to their e-mail address I have never seen that and I do not know if one of the coder's has created a app for that or not, but I would poke around and search the marketplace area or contact these guys Mike John or Adriano Faria and request a custom application be made for you, if it is doable these guys can do it.
  21. I am not a contributor, skinner, or coder and thank goodness for the ones that are and I for one really appreciate the contributor's, skinner's and coder's, work, time they give, apps, mods, and skins provided to us for to purchase and the free ones. This nonsense with removing members from client status who own a valid and legal license just because they will are not paying for support since they do not require support is foolishness and childish. and before this topic is locked since everyone is not agreeing to changes and current "policies if you want to call it that", is IPB that hard up financially you are trying to strong arm Clients that did Purchase and Own Legal IPB License(s) and Application(s) to "either pay for 6 month support or you cannot be a client here"?? Oh and IPB you are making money from these very people that are selling their mods, applications, and skins on this site, so I guess the old saying "Don't bite the hand that feeds you" is of no concern to IPB?
  22. I understand it is for more than advertising, but I do not want my site to have sidebars everywhere you go to on it that are not available for disabling a hook or turning it off in the admin cp I have seen member's sites here and they are nothing but a cluster and how they have membership is beyond me, you click something and sidebars, banners, images, etc. everywhere and amidst all of that clutter you find a forum. That is my concern, can it be turned off in all areas you do not want it at period? My forum the membership minimize if you want to call it that if they like or they can read them, but that is it I do not want that stuff anyplace else on my site, especially in modules.
  23. I understand that about the Sponsor's banners, advertisements, etc, to a certain degree, but if you spam the membership too much with advertising the membership will leave, if the membership leaves then the Sponsors will leave, how many reading this has been members of other sites and one day you go to that site, there are advertisements a post of two down in topics, advertisements in sidebars, banners, at the top, banners at the bottom etc. If you turn your forums into a billboard people will leave, perspective membership will not join, and then you lose your Sponsors. My site pays 100% for itself and well as your does to, but my advertisements are neat, clean, and not taking away from the forums which is the key or should be the key with anyone owning a IPB license, IPB is forum software not just a place to put billboards everywhere.
  24. Can this be turned off in the Admin Cp is all I want to know?? Folks these sidebars all over the forums and modules is going to really tick off a lot of members on your site and why folks are here cheering this on is beyond me, sidebars are the annoying advertising spam you hate and curse about on other sites and now everyone wants it on the forums??
