  1. We do, but unless we host the site or unless they're using IP.Board itself illegally, there is very little chance we can successfully do anything about it. Your best bet is to contact their host.

Better yet, contact Blizzard Entertainment since that is who the copyright holder would be.

  2. I've had "bad" PMs sent to other members, that someone wants to bring to my attention. Before, they could just forward it to me. Now they have to invite me to it, which just flat out shows I'm in their PM and its no longer "private"

It that case they should use the "report button".

  3. Could the search feature to show results as topics, pretty please be added back in? I'm constantly getting complaints about this since upgrading, latest one from a user:

    http://community.invisionpower.com/index.php?app=core&module=usercp

It is a setting at the very end of that page.

  4. I just have to ask one other question. vBulletin states that you are only allowed 1 forum per license; that is fair enough, but it also states that that forum cannot extent beyond that one directory. So, now that vBulletin has it's own CMS, you MUST have the CMS in the forum directory.

I usually have my CMS on the home directory; and my forum in /forums/. This is not allowed under the new license agreement by vBulletin. Is it allowed with IP.Content and IP.Board?

Yes, That is allowed. They actually encourage it and use that ability as a selling point.

  5. Why do you keep blaming others when the problem is with the board?

I specified a few problems and some of them does not have anything to do with any third party but with the board!

And I guess that this skin that was downloaded also from the resource site is faulty, right?

It is a third party skin that was probably not designed to use rtl. Still the responsibility of the author of that skin to decide if they want to fix it or not.

  6. Maybe IPS could write a Wiki app (or forums module) and let us users and IPS staff write the documentation online here. Wikis are much better than having an articles forum as everyone can edit the content.

    They already do. http://community.invisionpower.com/page/articles.html
  7. I believe that option or a similar feature is already available. If you notice at the bottom of the thread, there is the option to hide post below a certain threshold. This is tied to the reputation system, so if a post gets enough negative votes, it get hidden.

  8. Here are a few that may help you http://resources.invisionpower.com/index.php?appcomponent=cms&module=articles&category=134 and http://community.invisionpower.com/topic/292645-creating-an-application-documentation/

    That is a start anyway.

  9. While I can certainly appreciate that (we all want the best deal we can have) - can you not also appreciate our point?

I mean, we stopped offering the perpetual licenses 3 years ago, and the lifetime license a few years before that. If you want to hold on to the security that they provide, then that's all well and good; but do you really think it's reasonable to demand that we make special arrangements to accommodate that, beyond offering you a trade for a current license?

I think all they are asking is the option to purchase access to the service. I don't think any of us have asked for it to be free. At least most of us have not demanded that.

We purchased our lifetimes and perpetuals because we saw the ROI was very reasonable and it provided IPS with capitol at that time all while gambling IPS would still be in business in three years before we would realize any return. The regular licenses at that time, if I remember correctly, were $65 and lifetime were $199. It also pretty much locked us into staying with your company for many years and in return many have purchased the add on components.

In this case I just wish for the ability to purchase access to new services without giving up my benefits of the original investment and gamble I made in your company.

  10. I believe that instead of forcing Lifetime/Perp holders to switch, an extra option should be made available. Yes, be able to switch the license over if they so choose, but another option as well.

There is another option available, don't subscribe to the service. ;)
  11. I wish you good luck. I understand your reasoning on the licensing for subscribing to the service. I have a couple questions though:

1 - Can the life-ers and perpetual license holders submit to the database? The community might benefit from that. Along those same lines will the subscribers that let their license expire still be able to submit?

2 - Will the check fail gracefully? This will affect those that have subscribed to the service and let their license expire.

Those are the two biggest issues we deal with on our block lists... well that and when we upset someone and the try to take down the file servers to prevent anyone from getting the updated database.

  12. Could also be because the payment processor is offline. IPS may have removed pending invoices so none come back rejected.

  13. It doesnt do anything in the dropdown to search own posts now. Thats what Im saying. Whats the hurt to add a link in the dropdown to see your posts. Its a quick and easy way for the member who may be on the run to sign on and see if anyone responded to their posts recently ....especially on a busy forum

I am pretty sure that is already a feature and there is a watched content hook that you can enable for the front page of the forum. The member just has to set the flag in their settings to automatically subscribe to all topics they make or post in.

  14. Why not? Gotta look out for the server admins as well. If you have say 2000 active members on the board and alot of them not only are searching but maybe searching their own posts as well then that extra page load means alot. Every little bit helps to help keep the forum fast. Search uses alot of resources as it it. I dont think a couple lines of code now is a huge sacrifice to save some load on the server later.

Trust me, I am thinking about server admins.

I voted no for consistency not because it was a bad idea. If you are looking for content submitted by a member, you go to their profile to find that information. It seems logical and consistent that if you are looking for your own content from the board index you would do the same.

  15. Can some people who want this added please vote? Should it be standard to have a link on the index to view your posts?

Ahh, I see, so your request is because it takes one extra click to see that data. I will vote no for consistency reasons.

  16. I find this rather amusing. IE6 is crap and I hate it - I have to support ie6 however at my work for a lot of web applications (AJAX etc...). The procentage of IE6 users is huge. It's a big market share. Same thing with IPB's skin, it does not display the same in ie due to the moz borders which makes it look a lot less pretty. Why didn't Invision make it ie6 compatible? There is nothing I can see on IPB3 in a good browser that cannot be achieved for ie6.

Sam, since we can map skins to useragents, you could make an IE6 compatible skin and map those users to that. Hummm, sounds like a way for an enterprising skinner to make a few bucks. ;)

  17. The reason I can find for someone wanting to remove IP Tracking is if someone is operating a website/forum where members post .torrent downloads or Rapidshare download links. Since U.S. Law requires website owners, through court orders, to turn over log files from their website, I'm guessing that the owner of the site wants to protect his or her members from being dragged into court for downloading copyright material.

There's just no other way that I can see why someone, an Administrator, would want to disable IP Tracking. Disabling it just to disable it just doesn't make sense.

You do realize people from outside the USA use this software right? The OP stated that it is a political forum, most likely a forum where members rail against the government from time to time... I can see where not tracking the poster IP might come in handy, especially if the government is oppressive and people can be jailed for saying anything remotely critical of the ruling party.

I'm not saying it is a good idea or not, just tossing out an additional reason why it could be requested... free speech can get you arrested or even killed in some countries.

  18. No.

    1) They wouldn't have the possibillity to move posts

    2) That would require me to choose the moderator groups to be able to moderate all the forums, expect the trash can.

1 - Yes they would. It is a setting to allow them to do what you want while still preventing them from editing posts in the TrashCan. Now if they are smart, they move the post to a forum the have edit powers in and edit the post.
2 - Bingo, that is why those options are there and is what you are requesting. Select the forum and set the group's mod powers ( you realize you can mass do that from one screen, right).
